Data & Statistics

Health and disability data and statistics can assist local service providers, advocacy organizations, state agencies, and health care organizations to target populations that have the most needs for health promotion, health education programs, and health care services.

The Disability and Health Data System (DHDS) is a state-level disability surveillance tool designed to assist health care providers, self advocates, researchers, and the general public in the assessment of the health and wellness of people with disabilities. DHDS was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Division of Human Development and Disability (DHDD) at the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD). DHDS presents data in a variety of easily accessible formats. This centralized data source allows users to gather and assess disability related health information. Users can access three types of data: disability, psychological distress, and disability associated health care expenditures. Data are available by states and territories, divisions, and regions. DHDS is a resource for program planning, policy development, disability research, and health communication activities.
